The Old Move Editor
Overview
The Old Move Editor (OME) is the "old version" of MOVEDIT.EXE, which is imbedded in Die By the Sword. This was a fully functional editor at one point, but it fell in to disrepair after the new Move Editor was created. Now serves largely as an attribute editor where the user can view the impact of changes in attributes the characters stance and movement.
The OME is entered by typing "MOVED" at the Main Menu screen of the game. Characters are loaded into the editor one at a time. Once a character has been loaded, it can be controlled under VSIM much as in the new Move Editor. The characters attributes (found in the .ATT file) may then be displayed and modified on the screen in real time (up to 6 at a time). As the attributes are adjusted, their effects are applied to the character. This is the principal means of modifying character attributes in DBTS. The OME also includes a facility for creating the .DEF file associated to a character, which should be done after any changes to the attributes are complete.
A command overview is provided below.
Adjusting a Characters Attriubtes - Walkthrough
This is the procedure for modifying the attributes of a character:
Notes:
Attributes can be added to or removed from the screen and modifications will be preserved.
The user will notice a brief period of loss of control after modifying an attribute. This is so the computer can recalibrate certain factors related to the default stance of the character. For correct results, the character should be standing mostly still when attributes are modified. Changes can be saved out to a .ALL file, which has the same format as a .ATT file.
Make sure .ATT, .ALL, and .DEF files are writable before trying to modify them with this tool, because it will not warn you.
Modifying Attributes
Up to 6 character attributes can be added to the screen at a time. One designated attribute is the "current" attribute, which appears in highlighted text, will be modified by the attribute adjustment keys (see below). When the increase or decrease attribute key is pressed, the current attribute will be increased or decreased by the scale value, displayed at the top of the screen. The scale value can be adjusted up or down by powers of 10 via the attribute scale adjustment keys (see below).
